Omeka S is being employed as the web framework and front-end website. Omeka S is an open-source publishing platform that utilizes linked open data to create cultural heritage exhibits and ensure broad distribution.

Additionally, the OER utilizes a custom theme designed and implemented by the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Custom Vocabulary

The metadata for all materials has been entered using a custom vocabulary we created based on our needs, combining elements from the Dublin Core, Friend of a Friend, and Bibliographic Ontology vocabularies as follows:

Title (dcterms:title)

Title of document

Description (dcterms:description)

A description of the document and its relevance to law and race

Excerpted (dcterms:extent)

"Yes" entered if document has been excerpted

Date (dcterms:date)

Date of original document in YYYY-MM-DD format

Author (dcterms:creator)

Author of original work, regularized according to VIAF

Legal Concept (foaf:primaryTopic)

The legal concept discussed in the document

Subject (foaf:topic)

The people or groups of people being affected by the law in the document

Temporal Coverage (dcterms:temporal)

The time periods covered by the document

Spatial Coverage (dcterms:spatial)

The geographic areas of the document

Procedural History (bibo:court)

If document is a legal case, provide the procedural history of the case

Document Type (dcterms:type)

The type of document

Document Category (foaf:theme)

The category of document

Bluebook Citation (dcterms:publisher)

Bluebook citation, if document is case law or an act of legislation

Archival Source (dcterms:source)

Name of the repository, collection, and other location information if document was retrieved from an archive

Bibliographic Citation (dcterms:bibliographicCitation)

Title, place, publisher, and date of republished material in Chicago-Style Citation

Digital Repository (bibo:distributor)

Name of digital repository that provided access to document
