And Justice for All: Race, Gender, & the Law in U.S. History

As part of the U.S. Law and Race Initiative at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, we have launched a 100-level History course, And Justice For All: Race, Gender, & the Law in U.S. History, designed to introduce large numbers of undergraduates to race and race-making in American law and history. Crosslisted with Ethnic Studies and Women's and Gender Studies, this course provides an introductory survey of race, gender, and the law in U.S. history such as federal Indian law and tribal sovereignty, gendered and racialized restrictions on citizenship and civil rights, tensions between state and federal authority, and historic campaigns for the expansion and restriction of individual liberties.

Beginning Fall 2025, this OER has been used as the primary course materials for the HIST 115 class. To explore what documents were used during each offering of the course, choose one of the following links.
