- Reproductive rights are fundamental human rights to make decisions about one's reproductive and sexual health, free from discrimination and restriction. Such rights include access to contraception, abortion, and sex education. Reproductive care access in the nineteenth century tended to be at the discretion of a physician, while in the twentieth century, lawmakers began to place more restrictions on abortion care. It was legalized nationwide in 1973 with the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, but has since been walked back by Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992) and Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022).
