Margaret Quando v. Thomas Wheeler
Margaret Quando by her Petition to the Provincial Court sets forth
That one Thomas Wheeler of Charles County about Sixteen Months before had became bound for the appearance of one Anne Reny (suspected to have had a bastard child) at March Court (then[?]) was[?] Twelve Months [unclear] persuaded[?] the Petitioner's Two Daughters, Mary & Eliza Quando to enter into Indentures for Seven years Each (which they were easily induced to do being Minors) to serve said Wheeler upon no other consideration then to counter[?] [unclear] him from the Obligation part[?] for said Reny's appearance, and that the better[?] to elect[?] his Intention [unclear] of getting the Petrs Daughters in for servants, secured[?] the said Reny to be transported into Virginia, & employed an attorney at the said March Court to move for the assignment of his own bail bond which was accordingly done That the said Wheeler immediately took the Petitioner's said Daughters to his house & that he had kept them as servants ever since, and yet he insisted on their serving him the whole seven years [unclear] and that he denied them the liberty of applying to any Court for relief & [unclear] That Honorable Court to direct the said Wheeler to appear before them & to bring the said servants &c
On the back of which Petition is thus endorsed ([unclear]) of James Stoddert & Daniel Dulany Esqrs that the Petitioners have had some hardship done them, the Court recommends the Petitioner to Charles County Court for relief & they to do therein as to Justice appertains

Which Petition and reference aforesaid being in Court here on the second Tuesday in June read It was then Ordered that Summons issue for the aforesaid Wheeler and the Servants aforesaid to appear here the next Court to be holden here the second Tuesday in August then[?] next at which day came as well the Petitioner as the aforesaid Wheeler the servants aforesaid & after again reading the aforesaid Petition & the Reference aforesaid the same was by Order of the Court here continued by Several Imparlances & [unclear] to the Parties aforesaid till that Day (to wit) the second Tuesday in March aforesaid at which day came here as well the aforesaid Thomas as the [unclear] aforesaid & all & singular the premises being by the Court here seen and fully understood and mature deliberation thereon had.
It is therefore considered that the aforesaid Mary and Eliza be discharged from the Indenture aforesaid & be free according to the [unclear] of the Petitioner aforesaid.
It is likewise considered that the aforesaid Margaret recover against the said Thomas Weeler two thousand one hundred forty eight pounds of tobacco to the same Margaret for her costs & charges in the premises by her laid out and expounded by the Court here adjudged according to the form of the act of Assembly in those cases late made & provided that the same Margaret have execution thereof.
